Mary's Book highlights of art within.

Mary's Book highlights of art within.

Mary's Book Round II.

Mary asked that we Do three things. 1) Something representing where we lived (the fish above- I live at the beach). 2)Something seasonal...the "Spring Butterfly and lunar moth above." and 3) A self-portrait. I was very happy to comply with all but the last one. Then, I decided that on the last page- the 1/2 page collaboration- I should just give it a try. So I did.

Collaboration with Anders. Mary's book Round II.

LOVED doing this collaboration with Anders!

Mary Taitt's Book!!!

"Obstinate Fish.' Pen and ink. Duration of work on this piece...14 hours!!
I can't believe we are almost at the end of the 2nd round! There are only four of you left to work in Mary's book!

Celebrate Celebrate! YAY I got a moley in the mail

Woohoo! Spring has come and a new Moley has arrived, Roma's has arrived from Gretchen, Round 3, and it's here in time to travel to Texas with me, though my schedule is pretty busy. Maybe I can work on the plane coming and going. Click image to view larger. I was trying to showoff my forsythias and daffy down dillies that just opened today. But the forsythia in particular doesn't show up too well.

Moleskine surgery part 2

We got to Louisiana late last night, and today, at the gallery i'm taking apart my A4, which in my favorit moleskine.

So far, total success and now Ned is going to put them in the premade frames we ordered.

I thought i was going to have a lot of regrets and difficulty in taking it out of the book, but actually it was quite easy and it's nice to see all the work together.

I just can't quite bring myself to throw awat the cover just yet...

I'm going to be here till the 19, so Molly, you'll get Stephanie's book a couple of days late (sorry).

Stepanie's book, Half pagefor Molly

stephanies_book0301
Those were supposed to be frames, but now they look like pools of water to me.

Stepanie's book, page 7

stephanies_book02

I started this then after drawing the hands and the frames for the cards realized I was holding the book upside down!
I think it still works...

Another Rumi poem. As I said before, I'm not so crazy about his work, or rather, I'm not so crazy about the philosophy behind the poetry. This is a perfect example of why - I love the imagery, and I love the rhythm and the simplicity of the poem, but I'm not so crazy about the notion of having to lose yourself and relinquish your personality (and ego) in order to connect to some higher truth.

Another paper cut in Stephanie's book

Stephaniesbook02

After I did the first one, I kept wondering what would a papercut look like if it was on a patterned paper rather then a solid color paper. I decided to give it a go (this is actually a page from Harper's Bazaar about Marchesa).

Almost everything went wrong with this after the cut was done, the background didn't come out the color that I wanted, then I used a pen to write the poem and it dripped all over, I had to do this collage thing to cover it up, then I realized the text came out bigger then I expected but couldn't do anything about it by then.
Somehow, though it's far from perfect, I still do like the feel of this piece.

Ballookey Klugeypop's Round Three Almost Done!

Boob-Tube is incomplete. One more square to go! Haskel School it must be... Horrible history - great future.
Crown of thorns or Lent!  My friend Ben says it looks like a tiger and Colin, another friend says an alligator. Katie, my daughter, agrees, it looks like a tiger...
Not a Jay Hawk! Rock Chalk Jay Hawk... I am ready to do a Ph.D at the University of Kansas.

Collaboration part one with Roma! Have fun! Feel free to color away/change anything.
Easter! Easter, like the spring season it graces, is associated with birth, renewal and fertility.
 Geckos and more geckos!
Art in the park! Lawrence Kansas near Kentucky and Tennessee and 6th?
It looks like words at the top, but they were not planned.
Collaboration with my brother David Kline! Guest appearance.
Collaboration with Andrea Martinez! Blast off!
