Ammon's Book

Sorry. Apologies to Milo (& everyone) - I'm running v. late with this month's contributions. I will do better!

I've finally (finally!) discovered the birth of cool, beebop, modern, whatever you want to call it - all I know is, the older I get the less I'm interested in trivia and more in the stuff that matters. So, I ordered this bunch of Blue Note Jazz records and for the first time I'm understanding the groove. All of these bar one are influenced by Miles, Art, ''Cannonball'', 'Trane, et al.

MIA (watercolour pencils), Golson (polychromos pencils), Dali Season (polychromos & micron pen), Tight (neocolor crayons), Fleas and Son & Gaucho Society (felt tips)

Ian, these are so remarkable, I don't know where to beging without sounding like a gushing fool. Blue note is probably the best jazz label out there, and they has some astoundingly good cover art to boot. I play a new jazz ced for my students each week (though I occasionally throw on some modern "instrumental" electronic music, which they love). Anyhow, no need to rush andkeep up the exceptional work!!

Wow! Dali Season is fantastic, such a great style to it.

You are a master with the colored pencils!

Fleas and Son & Gaucho Society is really striking as well. Great POV!

thanks! moleskine and coloured pencils are like peaches and cream.

you guys probably been doing it for years but I'm only just getting into the habit of taking materials whenever I go away. I tend to take all sorts of stuff in a small tool box but I might just settle on just a 'skine and these pencils next time, maybe a micron pen - they're versatile enough.

what do you guys take along?

I take as many pens as I can cram into my bag & a couple of sketchbooks. Less pens on a plane as they tend to blow up.

glad to hear you're on the Blue Note boat Ian - any standout recommends? Have you tried any Monk, eg Genius of Modern Music Vol 1 but especially Vol 2. Especially like the gannet's eye view of tables in this batch.
