Oh WONDERFUL, Mary! You couldn't have known, but I'm totally enthralled by the ongoing debate over whether or not Ivory-billed Woodpeckers still exist or are extinct. They're extremely similar to Pileated Woodpeckers, so claimed sightings of the Ivory-billed are usually thought to be Pileated.
That whole controversy has captured my imagination. I would SO love it if Ivory-billed Woodpeckers exist somewhere... They're my Bigfoot. ;)

I've been following the ivory-bill controversy too! Maybe I'll paint some of them. I was just looking at pictures of them last night!!!
My former blog partner LOVED woodpeckers and esp pileated ones. We have those around here, or at least I assume thaey are. I haven't followed the controvery...I'll bone up on that.
