other people's 'skinerie

Perusing the space for ideas, I found this link somewheres - I think I followed the Moleskinerie link here and eventually ended up on YouTube. I admire this work by Takayashi Yoshinari. He, or maybe she, has created a single piece, 'Flow', which runs throughout the book, leading on from the previous page. It's such a simple idea, but beautifully executed. I especially like the way they've imagined a virtual extension to some of the pages and left the real page only to join it again at a different point, often a different page. Why don't I think of these things?!

There are several in this collection from 2006 on YouTube. At least a couple of contributors, Valeria Petrone, and Ted Goff, started by drawing two similar sized cells on each side of every page and used these as frames. I like that idea too.

PS. numpty that I am, it's only just occurred to me that these two approaches are polar opposites!

WOW! That's very cool. Are WE trying to do something like that? If so, I only have 6 pages left to figure it out.

Was Valerie's work done IN the moleskine or pasted in afterwards?

Are we going to have any particular guidelines or themes, or windows are continuing pix or?

I am new at this, it's my first time. So if there is something I'm supposed be doing I need to know.

Yes, I suspected that they were pasted in too. I wasn't sure if it was the quality of the video or not but I detected a slight gloss on the images as the pages turned. Looking at others in this series, several used pasted media - there's one that seemed to use the moleskine as a loom, lines of thread sewn into the pages. One guy obviously used so much pasted material, he wrote on the front cover, ''if pages stick simply pull them apart.'' lol.

I think it's safe to say, anything goes!

Woah... Yoshinari's book is awesome. I can't believe how much his lines seem to actually mimic real flow lines in a fluid...

And I never even thought of pasting stuff into a moleskine. I could even just paste a tiny piece of something and draw around it.

I promise you guys I will not paste any food.

It might be fun to do at least one with stuff pasted in and couldn't you weave a flow through a window?

Pasting stuff in is okay, Mary! As long as it isn't another blank page - 106 pages is way enough! argh. :o)

Cool--more experimentation coming up!

Of course now I want to paste in a blank page, LOL! Maybe a whole series of them, piles, one on top of the others. Cut in shards and puzzle pieces. Oh wait, then it would be hard to close the book.

Yeah, I thought I saw a gloss, too.

Haha, you could paste extra pages inside in the form of a tiny moleskine replica! With an even tinier moleskine pasted inside that... :P

Cool--I have a tiny moleskin
