Skulls and birds full circle in Mike's book
Finished! Shakespeare and Carl Sagan inspired me to play with the skulls and birds from Mike's previous work in his book. Now just to start a collaboration and throw some treats in the pocket! SO MUCH FUN!
I'm so impressed by those, the script is lovely, and I just love the way you interacted with Mike's work. I'm a lot clearer on what I want to achieve in the next book that falls into my hands after seeing those.
I'm going to be running behind, I'm afraid--I was at a writer's retreat for a week and brought the mole along but was too busy to paint and now I have out of town company coming.
Thank you, all! I'm pretty pleased with this series-my husband loved the idea when I told him about it, so I thought it was a good one. ;)
@Mary: The black background is black primer that I spray painted on the pages. Then I use Golden fluid acrylic paint on them. It doesn't buckle, bleed or cause any trouble on the thin paper, so I'm really glad it works as well as it does. I even have a few more tricks up my sleeve for these black backgrounds... ;)
I tend to think in series - either variations on a theme, or telling a story, or collections of some idea. I don't know why that is, but my husband would probably like a bit of money every time I've been driving along and out of the blue said, "OH, I know! I could make a series of..." ;)

These are so mindblowingly great, I'm freakin' humbled.
Amazing. Excellent work.
What medium is that black?

The contrast in high and low key between the first two and last two is truly startling! These are wonderful.
At my writing retreat, I wrote a poem about having to create the universe in order to color the autumn leaves.
I LOVE the skulls being eggshells.
(I also just wrote a poem about a skull.)(totally unrelated but so serendipitous.)

Thanks, Balookey, the black looks great! I was using gouache (and black water color) and they do not cover well.)
Wow. Your COLORS. Stunning. The series idea is great fun.
I would really have to work on my focus to achieve a contiguous "series" in one book... but your display here makes me want to try! Really nice work.

I cannot wait for you to get my book!
@Ellen: Thanks! ^_^
