Light watercolors will hold up. I have had washes bleed right through though. Same deal with liquid acrylics. I think Mary could actually get away with using acrylics everywhere because they don't really soak as much....and the real reason I am commenting: great image!
I have not started my book yet, this is finals week coming up so I am hustling to study and finish a couple of projects.

That's so cute! Absolutely adorable. :-D
I just painted a picture in mine in acrylics. I did it on the inside of the front cover.
I was about to scan and post it.
But that doesn't help with the issue of how it would hold up. Which is why I did it on the inside of the front cover.
I was going to try water colors next.
I love your style. I was thinking that it might help my growth as an artist if I try something in different styles.

Good luck with your finals.
I used water color pencils and water soluble oil pastels on two of my moles and that worked fine.
